Through previous leadership and consultancy roles I have developed and delivered a range of high-impact environmental and community programmes
The School Programme:
In partnership with The London Borough of Lewisham
The School Programme was developed with Lewisham Council and the charity Street Trees for Living, planting street and school trees with school communities, increasing canopy cover while encouraging the next generation to connect with nature and care for trees.
With support from the Greater London Authority this programme was then scaled, delivering a total of 800 school trees with 70 primary schools over seven London boroughs.
Project Brownhill:
In partnership with The National Trust
Project Brownhill was a joint project between The National Trust, Lewisham Council and Street Trees for Living, focusing planting close to a stretch of the south circular, London’s eighth most polluted road.
Project Brownhill worked with local residents and one medical practice to plant 26 new street trees. These trees brought immediate colour and shade, encouraging wildlife and creating screening from traffic.
Perhaps most importantly they also brought people and communities together; facilitating the opportunity for them to invest in the streets where they live and work and helping to bring about positive change to the area.
Grow Back Together:
In partnership with Greentalk
Partnering with Greentalk and Lewisham Council, Grow Back Together was a Street Trees for Living programme that breathed new life into Lewisham’s empty tree pits. 100 ‘vacant’ pits were planted with new trees in areas of the borough with low tree cover and high climate risk, adding up to 1300m2 of new tree canopy cover when mature.
This programme used innovative strategies to reach local residents, and developed technical solutions to get more people involved in caring for their local environment.
